Default Car Not Cranking Over, 97 Civic DX

Just finished swapping in a fresh y7 yesterday, ran and everything. Got a new dizzy cap, spark plugs, ignition wires, new battery too.

It's a stock d16y7, nothing else. Ran fine yesterday, but went to start it today and it would only do a clicking noise. Lights on the dash and everything shows up.

But I noticed while driving it last night, battery light came on. It would flash on and off some times...then when I got home, it stayed on. I'll try jump starting it and test the "new" battery I got though.

But if that's not the problem, any other thoughts?

Thanks.

same thing happed in my car. the battery you bought is more than likely a defect. take it back and get them to switch it for another one and you shouldnt have any problems. thats what i did anyhow, and havent had any problems since.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking. The battery is called "Astro Power" or some bullshit lol

If the lights on the dash come on and the headlights come on then i doubt its the battery. Does it just click once or a series of clicks? More than likely it is the starter. Check for power at the big wire on the starter and if you have power there then check for power at the small wire while someone is trying to crank it.

At first (before it died like this), you can hear multiple clicks, then later on, it just stays to 1 click.

If it is a series of clicks its more than likely a dead cell in the battery. Take it to autozone or wherever and have it tested for free

my lights, radio, and everything electrical worked when i turned the key. yet it was still my battery that prevented it from cranking, and it wouldnt hold a charge.

Just went back down there to check the plugs on the starter. Tightened things up, cleaned some corrosion away from the battery terminals. Tried starting it up, I get a series of clicks now.

Everybody is pointing at the battery, but when my car started having issues like this it was the voltage regulator inside the alternator. They symptoms of my car were -

not starting, but when i got it started it ran just fine
everything would dim (terribly, as in cut off dim) when my subs hit
my HU would cut off when i flipped the lights on

i would suggest first jumping it. then take the positive terminal off of the battery, if it cuts out your alternator is bad. If it stays on, let it run for a good while and hook it up to the battery to charge it and then cut it off and try to start it again and see what happens. If you can't start it your voltage regulator is bad. Hope that helps

Went to check again haha, turned on the headlights and the lights on the cluster dimmed horribly.

We'll see what happens tomorrow though.

I would definetly try replacing your alternator... I know thats expensive as nuts but that should cure it. If you take it to a store like AutoZone or Advance they can't exactly diagnose this type of problem b/c the alternator works fine when running. Anyway keep us updated and let us know how goes it.

im just speaking from experience. would definitely get an exchange on the battery before spending a lot on a new alternator.

boost the car, your battery charge is too low, you probably try to many times or you have a bad ground ... me i have a similar problem with a d16z6 after we wash the motor.. it doesn t start at all, we have fire in cylinder, fuel to injector.. can't check if they open when we try to start .. but i guess , dizzy cap is plug properly in fire order 1-3-4-2 , 1 starting at C point on the cap.
I think maybe a bad ground could cause that.. but im not familiar with multimeter to check all ground to see .. someone have an idea or can refer a pro for that in montreal..
