Which wires did you check with a multi-meter?

Are you sure you have the wires in the right places?

To check for VTEC signal, you can tap into the wire coming out of the ECU for VTEC engagement (VTEC solenoid wire). It should be 0V - but should read 12v (I think, or close to it since you can jump it by connecting it to the battery w/o hurting it) and your multi-meter should show 12v when VTEC's on.

Remember, VTEC also is based on your temp and speed - so make sure your car is fully warmed up and obviously you can't do this while idling - gotta be in gear w/ the clutch out and moving.

Is your ECU chipped for VTEC at a specific RPM? Or do you have a VTEC controller?

If you do this will cause VTEC to turn on at that RPM regardless of what the ECU thinks.

How did you test the switch? Isn't that cheap enough that if you're throwing that CEL you'd replace it, just to be safe?

i had a friend do that one...my advice is when somethings making noise or somethings wrong with your car, just beat it up and whatever the problem is...will break or become obvious. my friend was doing something stupid, vtec would kick so he wound it up to 9k with 2 qts and bam 2 rods gone
