Default Distributor install...... 96 civic

car: 1996 honda civic dx sedan, automatic

So far the distributor is off. How do i line up the first piston? is there a special tool? can i do it by eye if i have somebody in the car just turning it over slowly until the crankshaft spins into position?

if your trying to put the distibutor back on it will only fit into the camshaft one way. look at the end of the crankshaft through the distributor hole. the slot in the camshaft is not completly dead center. its offset a little. therefore, the distributor will only fit one way. line it up and if the distributor wont go into the head all the way, then the dist. is 180 degrees out. spin it over and try again.

Remove the rotor cap, and turn the rotor until the keyway fits in the camshaft. You will need a timing light to get your timing dead on, but if you center the distributor you will end up pretty close to stock timing.

crank over the motor, then loosen the nut on the end of the fuel rail holding on the fuel line. if gas squirts out like its under pressure, the problem is in the injectors, if it just dribbles out without any pressure behind it, you dont have a pump/filter/fpr issue
