Default Wierd Battery issues!?!?!?!

hey, well i replaced my oddyssey 680 w/ a Energizer battery in the trunk. It has 560 CCA and should have no problem starting the car. Although I keep getting stuck in gas stations and anywhere I stop the car...

car runs at 14.0 VOLTS (apexi RSM voltmeter)
and battery reads 11.8 volts when the car is in the ON position but when i try to crank it, it drops down really low and doesn't even crank...

Now i think that the cells are garbage, and the battery is junk... although its not even 4 months old

Could Main Relay be an issue?

SOMETHING IS DRAINING MY BATTERY!?!

this is how i have it set up

evan how you have that going into the fusebox is no good

go to circuit city or something and get a power distribution block. then split those two lines and have the one run up to the fusebox and the one to the starter seperate.

where did you get that breaker for the battery

that is a common problem when relocating the battery to the rear best way is to run a ground wire back to the front and groung to motor

I could be wrong, but nearly everyone who puts the battery in the trunk grounds it back there too.

Mine is like that and I don't think its causing any problems, though I could be wrong.

11.8 volts is low you should be at 12.45 at the lowest which is 75% charged. 14.0 volts running is about right. If you work at a shop you could do a load test on the battery using a VAT which would tell you if the battery is bad or not for sure.

12v is a full charge on a battery, and 11.8v is completely normal in my experience.

the 14v is from the alternator running.

no buddy, 12v is not a full charge, full charge is 12.6v. 12.0v is like 25% charge. i know it sounds crazy but its true.

actually, buddy, its 12v

you can buy some other battery that charges to 12.6v if you like, the battery manufacturers are pretty lax with their standards. but honda spec is 12v. everything on the car is 12v, with the exception of the interior lights which are regulated to 5v

Yea I work at AutoZone and charge and test batteries every day. Usually when the battery comes off the charger with 100% charge the tester reads approximately 12.5

ok i want you (mgags) to go outside right now with a DMM and check the voltage on your battery. if its only 12.0, i will give you 100 dollars. i know what i'm talking about. honda batteries are no different than the others

you would be 100 bucks in the hole dude

my battery has been 11.8v for the past two years since I bought it.

I'm not trying to start some huge argument here, the difference between 12v and 12.6v is minimal.

ok I don't measure open circuit voltage of my battery ever, it puts 11.8v to the rest of the car and that is what matters.

good article for the uneducated people around here.
