my car wont rev past 5000 i have no clue what it could be. someone please help me!

 

Does it sound like the rev limiter is kicking in? Or does it just sound like it is out of power? If it is the latter check your exhaust to make sure you have a lot coming out, it could be that your CAT broke apart and is obstructing the exhaust flow....just one of many possibilities.

So maybe your cat has has a clogged airway. Hairball maybe?

If it is at 5000 it is not redlining.

Check to see if you do have a good exhaust flow out the tail pipe. If you don't you can try to get a friend to rev it up to 3500 and then start lightly hitting the CAT to see if it makes a difference. Either way to push it, if it is a broken/clogged cat you can easily crack a header or blow the header gasket due to the high pressure.

 

Does it just stay at 5,000 RPM smoothly or does it bounce at 5,000 like a rev limiter is kicking in?

Then it is most likely not the cat
