Default exhaust rattle when starting/cold (Searched)

I think it's the cat, but it only happens when the car is cold. I was just wondering if it could be the cat cuz it's only when its cold. Sound like it's commming from under my ***- centre of the car. Stock exhaust, think it's been replaced but the cat looks shitty on the outside anyways.

I searched and found some stuff but it was all at like 3-4k rpm so it doesn't apply really

thanks

Check the heat sheilds. My exhaust rattles a lot when its cold too, once it heats up it sounds better.

Most likely your cat heatshields. Mine do it to, I'm just too lazy lately to tighten it. It stops when the car warms because the metal expands, and fits tighter.

A lady brought a broken car to my dad the other night, scared shitless that her idiot son had broken it. It was a 1991 LS Integra. It sounded like the devil when it was on, all rattles and wierd noises and ****. My dad comes in and gets me,

"Mikey, what's wrong with this woman's car?"
"Lemme listen."

I go out, I listen for five seconds, I crawl under the car with a rag and rip the heatshields off the cat by hand. I throw them across the driveway and go back inside, acting like I'm the coolest ************ on the Earth. No more rattle.

Moral of the story: have an audience when you fix it. Maybe you'll get laid.

Is there any use for the cat heat shields? Mine rattles too. Is there any harm in taking them off?

They're mostly to disepate (sp?) heat. don't park over dry leaves with no heatshields...

if you're in a fire prone area you may want to not do it but in all reality the likely hood of it causing a fire is slim.
