Default supercharged b20vtec?

im building a b20vtec now with the intent to supercharge with a jrsc thats intercooled and has a 10lbs boost pulley. however im trying to sell the supercharger and get a turbo. does anyone have any ideas of what i could put into the motor to have it run well with either a supercharger or a turbo. if i dont sell the jrsc im going to use it.

thanks, james

i dont know but i would highly recommend you resleeve the block before you put boost or a supercharger to it... i have one and i ran a stock bottom end on a fully built gsr head and i took it to 7900-8000 rmp and crack cylinder 3 sleeve and that was all motor b20 sleeves are junk until you have them resleeved

yeah, i had planned on sleeving the block but its about 1000 bucks as far as i know. i found a diy block guard that looks promising. i really want the most hp but i might have to settle with a mild all motor setup. ive already got a b16 in my 90 crx and i know it doesnt take much to make it move.

do you think id be alright with 9-1 c/r and a block guard with 10lbs of boost. the head will be fully built and i plan on getting an eagle stroker kit.

let me know what ya think

b20 blocks have thin wall and are not made for boost they are better for NA

if i were to go n/a whats the highest c/r you think i could run with just a block guard and the motor will be fully built. this is an option ive been thinking about but i wont get the most hp this way. if i could get close to 300hp and a good reliable daily driver id be happy with that

B20 sleeves wont withstand more then 10PSI but i have seen people with 600 hp turbo b20's with stock sleeves as well so....id still resleeve it and get some good pistons and lighter rods as well.

building motors sucks . ive never done one so this will be a challenge. im willing to put the money in to it and i dont wanna cut corners but if i can save money i def. want to. its seems like sometimes stuff works and other times it doesnt. i guess ill have to wait and see

you always gotta learn somehow right? if you dont feel comfortable resleeving it just have your local machine shop do it all and they can rehone the sleeves and bore them out to your specs if you want to as well.

Superchargers and turbos like different compression ratios, Superchargers like higher compression 10.0 - 11.0-1 compression are good for blowers. So you will have to build the motor for one or the other. At 10psi the charger will be at its limit for a non modified unit. it will be blowing very hot air.

what do mean by "non-modified unit"? the supercharger or the engine. the jrsc has had some work done to it by a place in FL. and its now intercooled. the engine isnt built yet but it work be totally rebuilt.

some people like to build whats called a "dyno queen" and run it to make numbers on the rollers but almost never go out and drive the car....

its best to plan ahead and think about how often youll be driving the car, almost any forced induction application is prone to failure at some point, but sleveing your block and using lighter rods would help lessen a lot of the pressure you will be putting on the block.

for some guys, pulling a motor is no big deal, so just spend the money on 4 b20 longblocks, run 10 psi, with decent fuel management, and when it pops in like 5-6 months, throw another engine in there.

if your going the route of tossing all you eggs (aka $$$) in one basket, which is most likley the case if your running a vtec head, then choose your parts wisely and consider sleeving.
