Default A lil help for noob boosting a b16

Hello guys,

Am in the process of gathering parts for boosting my b16a EG SiR2 using a XS power kit.

I know people have different views on these but thought id give it a go and see for myself. So far along with the kit i have got hold of Wiseco pistons, Eagle H rods, ARP studs, GM 3 Bar Map sensor, DSM 440cc injectors, Walboro 255 pump all running on Greddy E-Manage.

I was planning on running around 10 psi to see how it all runs and taking it from there before pushing my luck and upping the boost. I wondered what people usually upgrade in the bottom end to ensure it's safe enough for a daily driver and also if 10 psi is safe based on the parts i have.

I have seen a few spec with people using LS cranks? Is the fairly straightforward to fit?

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to show the spec i have so far. If anybody could give me a bit of advice or point me in the right direction on this site i would be greatful!

Thanks

You could run 10psi on the stock bottom end.

Thanks for the reply, i assumed anything more than 8 psi on stock bottom end and your asking for it? So if i wanted to run say 14 psi what kinda upgrades who you suggest?

Forged pistons/rods, upgraded map sensor, larger injectors, a good tune

Sorted then. So as far as the crank goes i should be ok then? I really wanted to run Hondata but picked up the Greddy E-manage cheap.

Is there anything wrong with your current crankshaft? If not, keep it.

Thanks. What do you think about skunk2 valve springs? Also do you think with a good tune up 300 bhp is realistic?

Sounds like you got a plan there. forged pistons, rods will do you good. as long as you got the engine apart Id refresh the head, get some studs and new bearings and call it a day.

youd need a really good tune to run stcok pistons reliably. a half tune will blow ring lands etc.

Dump the emanage crap, get a socketed ecu and tune it the proper way...no piggyback crap. I built and tuned a BMW turbo setup once with the emanage ultimate and it is a horrible way to do things...he took it out in favor of a megasquirt standalone ecu, no more piggyback crap fighting the stock computer for control...

Thanks for the info regarding E-Manage. I have a ZIF socket installed in the ECU and was running a supposed 'Mugen' map bought off ebay, ran rich all the time and i ripped it striaight out. Did read about making a modded Nokia cable to datalog but gave up! Trouble is that nobody round my way that i trust has enough knowledge regarding either crome or hondata so am a bit stuck. Will have a word with Thor Racing as they are the company tuning it for me as see if they can help with hondata. Would i still need to purchase the s200 hondata box or is the ZIF socket sufficient?

Thanks again for your reply's guys, your experience is much appreciated

Again thanks for the info guys, am gonna try and find a Uk based tuner close to me who is good with Hondata.

So which bearings would be worth replacing then? Am looking at Skunk2 valve springs but don't think they come with retainers. Have been looking at Blox versions which do but the price is a bit out of my range. So am i safe to run on the standard crank and valves? Also wondered if just upgrading the discs & pads would be enough stopping power as im having trouble getting hold of teg type r versions.

Your knowledge and info is much appreciated guys, will post pics when it's all finished an dyno'd
