Ignition Timing Concern?
Hey guys listen up!!! Can anyone tell me how you set ignition timing Please!? I think the guy who said he knew did it wrong just want to confirm cuz car runs like ****!

get a timing light, get your car to operating temp, shut off car, jump the service connector, loosen bolts on dizzy, connect timing light to battery and #1 spark plug wire, start car, aim light at crank pulley line up the white mark with the pointer on timing belt cover for stock timing, adjust to red mark for +2*, ( you adjust by turning dizzy), when desired timing is set tighten bolts on dizzy double check timing, shut off car remove service jumper, go rip mad vtak y0!

Thanks for help but i still cannot get it to work.
when i look at the mark, i see 4 6 1 I and the white pointer thing down there (as circle by red color)
however, when i turn the dizzy, the 461 I sequence just moving along the range as i marked by blue. what should i do now? and where is +2?

its on the crank pulley not the cam pulley, I suggest you get some sort of manual, helms would be best. i don't know if haynes or chiltons will show you how to set the timing or not. if you sgn up at hondahookup.com I believe they have manuals you can download

thanks for pointed out. i have a service manual for accord and 240sx which shows i should see the pointer on top of the pulley. but on this d16, i dont see ****. can anyone would so kindly show me where is it? is it possible it just gone?
EDIT: i figure out why i cannot see ****. the damn engine does not have timing belt cover

The word up is suppose to stay up while the mark on the side align with the mark on the side of the head and the line with the bottom pionter!!!

gl </TD></TR></TABLE>What degree do you set the TDC to? I mean when checking white mark at what degree is the timing gun suppose to be set at? Some dude said 0* degrees and that at 16* im suppose to see red marks is this true?! Thats how it was done was it done wrong if so please someone help me fix this!!
My car would be thankful for it

Cam timing is different from dizzy timing.
Cam timing makes sure your cams are in sync with your crank.
Dizzy timing makes sure it's firing at the right time.
For the "UP" on the cam pulley, that's for cam/crank timing, not dizzy timing, so you can set the timing when you're putting on a timing belt.
As far as setting the timing for the distributor, use a timing light.
You don't need any special tools to check the cam/crank timing. Just put a LONG screw driver in the #1 spark plug hole and turn the engine until the handle is as high as it will go (before it starts going back down) - now it's at TDC. Then you set the cam to TDC by pointing the cam so that "UP" is up or if it has a hash on each side, so that it's even w/ the head...or if it's a DOHC and it's got 2 arrows, that they're pointing at each other...so on and so forth.

Yeah thanx but im asking about ignition timing as in dizzy timing. how do you set that correct the other guy thread jacked me!! Hes the one that is wondering about crank timing not me i need ignition timing and need to know what to degree to set my timing gun at when checking for marks and which marks am i looking for?

bah just start er up..play with the distributer till it idle decently. lawls thats what i did with mine like 2 years ago and I havent touched it since. car trapped 93 mph . lol not bad
