timing
i did a search didn't really find anything. im looking for a write up or a site that says how to do timing. im about to fire up my swap today and i want to be ready to do this.

are you referring to ignition timing or cam timing? i would assume ignition timing, correct? if so you will need a timing light.

yes ignition timing and i have a light but when i hook it up to the pulg wire and shoot it a the timing lines what am i looking for?

basically, you have to jump the service connector (under the glovebox on the right hand side, above the pass footwell) then if you have a cheap light, you line the red (middle red mark if there are 3) timing mark on the crank pulley up with the mark on the timing cover. with a good light, you can adjust the amount of advance in degrees, then line the white mark on the crank puylley with the one on the timing cover. that is it in a nutshell.

my lines on my pulley don't have colors and i don't have a timing belt cover

i should have thought of that, as these cars get older, the crank pulley get beat up. look for a single indention on the pulley, on the rib closest to the motor. that will be the "white" mark, then roughly an inch or two counter clockwise from that will be the timing marks.
