Default What do you think about this purchase?

i bought a D16Y8 for $600. It has a Skunk2 intake mani, DC headers, hayami fuel rail, three puck clutch kit, and MSD ignition. I'm just getting the engine the tranny won't work on my car so i'm gonna have to use mine. The only thing i'm lacking is a P28 ECU. My car is a 1996 Civic DX. What do yall think? or

You brought a d16y8 swap and the tranny doesn't work for you car? Must be a cable tranny then, right? Otherwise it should work with no problem.

Yes it is a cable tranny. the engine was in a EF hatch. A friend of mine bought the hatch and never messed with it. Got a 350Z and is goin Nismo. The dude that had it before screwed the wiring up like a ***** so i'm gonna drop in my car and see what its got. The engine shouldn't have over 70K. We'll see how it runs.

Sounds like you bought a riced out motor.

A d-series with crappy bolt on's is about as fast as it was before the bolt ons.

With possibly less MPG and more **** to fix because the person before you thought it was a race motor and drove the **** out of it, revving to 7k through every gear.

I paid 800 and received all the mounts, throttle cable, ecu, a/c compressor and a B16 trans... not bad

Exactly what I worry about if i ever buy something already modified in some way.

Op, the deal you got sounds ok, but like stated, I'd be afraid if the motor was abused. If not, then, you could probably have some fun w/ it for cheap. What are your plans for it btw??

I hear what yall are saying, but i guess it's a risk that i'm gonna have to take since i alresdy paid for it. I mean i've seen some vids on some d16's that have pushed 500+ hp on forced induction. I just thought it would be dope to try this out and eventually move up in the ranks. I had plans to get a H22 or B16 but ended up with less money than i expected.

After while i'm gonna go forced induction. Later on down the road i'll have B18C5.
the shop i took the engine to is looking it over to let me know what the condition is of the motor. I'll take their word on it since they have a good reputation. I appreciate all of the opinions posted. Thanks again.
