This may sound lame, but have you checked your dimmer switch? Make sure it is turned up- cheap suggestion.

On another dimmer note, shortly after picking up my 99' gs-r in 04' I had to replace my dimmer switch because it dimmed over the first two months of ownership. It eventually did not light up anything, so I replaced the dimmer switch which solved my problem.

On the cluster side, are you positive the illumination bulbs are factory? 3rd party bulbs tend to be dimmer, and do not last as long.

^^^^ true, on the clusster the cluster the red/blk trace wire is standered on the itr and teg harness. The dash harness is the same. I would check to make sure the plastic connector is making good contact. Also check out that dimmer switch

thanks guys, but all the bulbs are good. i even switched out all the bulbs and mixed them up in the back(there are 3). but its always the same side that gets dim(right side where the speedo and fuel gauges are). and yes i already checked the dimmer switch it is turned all the way up, but i havent tried replacing it. even my climate control looks normal( i ambered those too). my recent LS cluster was fine. i also took apart the whole type r cluster and cleaned off the clear, plastic reflectors inside(it was dirty) and it did get a little brighter, but overall does not match. the tachometer is really bright tho.

I suppose somebody could have taken the gauge face off at one point and got the backside is dirty.
