OBD-II VSS into stock EG?
i have a OBD-II VSS just sitting here, and my speedo's acting crazy, and i wanted to replace my VSS before i go buying a new cluster (pretty sure the clusters the problem, just want to check) and upon taking the old VSS out, i discovered it was different.. the stock one has an arm off of each side, holding the top peice to the bottom peice, and then a third arm holding it to the tranny..
the OBD-II VSS is the same length, same gear size, same diameter, o-ring is in the same place, plug is the same, it's just that it's all one peice, and all plastic (save the shaft etc), but it fits, but it doesn't fix the problem..
my question is, if the problem wasn't in my cluster, WOULD it have fixed the problem? is the OBD-II VSS compatible with an OBD-I car/tranny/whatever?
oh.. the problem.. started the car, needle jumped to 20, started backing up, needle started jumping all over, put it in first, still jumping, get on the road, doing (i think) about 60, needle sticks at 17.. shut the car off, needle jumps to 60, then to 0.. also, miles go NOWHERE.. i know how to fix the cluster, just wondering if i'm gonna need to change the VSS back to the stock one when i do the cluster..
thanks ia

One is metal and one is plastic. My metal one from my OBDI 92 automatic went to crap so I used a 96 OBDII manual transmission speed sensor and worked great for 4 years.. Once I did my auto to manual conversion I just pulled it out and put it back on my manual and am using it now. MY problem was the VSS... Sure the plastic VSS didn't bolt up to the automatic but it did fit and ran just perfectly fine. Yes they are compatible between OBDI and OBDII
