Default custer problems?

Hey whats up all.... I've been noticing a problem with my cluster the other day. While I was driving around, the speedo was jumping up and down while I was driving. The first time this happend, I pulled over and Looked under the hood to see if there wsa anything wrong that I could see, but sure enough I wcouldn't tell anything. I hopped back in my car and drove away, then it didn't happen again through the rest of my trip home. Last night I was driving and the same thing happened again. I'm wondering if this is a cluster problem and if any of you have experienced the same thing and if so what was your problem. Thanx for any help

-Rob

check for a short, or check your VSS.

i have this same problem even after i have changed out my cluster , my VSS, my VSS shaft that goes into the tranny , and also the VSS plug, and still it did it. i just assumed that after replacing everything that it must be w short or wiring problme between the ECU and teh speedo and also my ground for the VSS plug. now it is working again with no problems but if it starts doing it again i am going top hardwire teh vss directly to the ECU , the SPEEDO and also directly hardwirea a ground. hopefully that will solve the problem, cuz i dont wanna go through the whole wiring harness to see where my short is.

Do u have a picture of what it looks like? Sorry, I just don't want to mess anything up. Also, in a week I have to drive 750 miles, is this something that is more of an inconvinience or will it leave me on the side of the road? Thanx for any help again - Rob

it on the top of your tranny. held on by 2 or 3 10mm bolts. just take them out, pull out the vss, spray it with silicon spray, and put it back together. you can't make it much worse, so give it a try.

no. if you don't fix it, you'll get a check engine light telling you to get a new vss. only thing that will happen is your speedo won't work.

nope. sometimes my speedometer quite working my i'm racing, or just decide to punch it on the roads.

BTW, if your speedometer doesn't work, your odometer doesn't either. my car doesn't rack up miles when the speedo isn't working, so i probably have an extra 5 miles on my car that the odometer doesn't show.

My 93 coupe did the same thing , I just swapd out the cluster for a 00 SI cluster and now it works fine and if it is your vss it should throw a check engine light. My advice is go to a junk yard and get a cluster for 50 bucks. Or you can get a JDM one off e bay
