Something similar happened to my tach. I don't know exactly what had happened. But my speedo did act funny once. Like when it reached 60 mph, the needle got stuck. But then I took my cluster out and moved the needle up and down a few times, then it worked properly.

first thing, check your VSS (located on top of your tranny and has 3 wires going to it)....just pull it out, clean it up, plug it back in, ans see what happens

check to see if the sppedo pin is still in place, should be like two bolts that hold the speedo sensor in.

It's either the VSS or the cluster. I replaced the VSS and mine still works half the time. So I got a used cluster. Good Luck!

Same thing was happening to my 97 coupe. I did what he said, replaced the speedo with a used one, and it flutters no more. Thanks for the info, guy..................

same thing happened to me but my tach did it as well. Mine was my battery not holding charge.
Replaced battery and I was good to go.

I had this problem and people told me it was the vss and not the speedo. They were wrong. I got a new cluster and it went away.

If the VSS didn't work then he'd get a check engine light and wouldn't be able to hit vtec.

The problem you have sounds like the common problem for civics....its the speedo. 200 bux to replacement of just swap it out with a known good one.

Also mileage will not work when speedo doesn't.

Is your off a little too? Mine reads too high. It also goes past 7000 and the fuel cut kicks in around 6500.

I posted this same thing a while ago. I fixed it though. Your cluster isn't getting enough power or it has a loose connection. If you haven't messed with your wiring I go for the loose connection. If you have, make sure your switches/wiring/etc is rated for its application.

Can you use a d series vss in a b series tranny? Mine just **** the bed yesterday after getting my quaiffe installed. Maybe it just needs cleaning, I'll try that first. By the way the quaiffe is ridiculously awesome!
