Default Door panel liner putty...what to buy

I'm sure many of you with 96-00 Civics have had this problem. This is the 3rd time on 2 Civics that the window popped off the regulator. It also happened on my friend's car. It's fixed, and I lubed the channels up with silicone paste. That's not the problem. I just need to know if there's something at Home Depot or somewhere else that I can buy to make the plastic door liner stick. Thanks for the help!

Not the answer you're looking for, but the Honda dealer by me uses regular old 3M box tape if the putty isn't sticky enough.

I'm pretty sure it's "strip caulking"

Does it come in a tube, or do you spread it on?

Neither. It comes in a tub, and you pull it out, knead it around, snake it out, and stick it on.

It may well work, but the consistency and tenacity are not exactly comparable to what came there in the first place. I'd be more inclined to use the strip seal or some kind of caulk.

Thanks for the description. That seems kind of messy. I appreciate the suggestion, Mista Bone, but I'm going to try the 3M stuff.

3M window-weld works too.

And the industry term for this type of stuff is butyl tape.

That stuff looks and sounds pretty strong. I'm looking for something that will allow me to peel the plastic back off again in the event that (more than likely), this happens again. So many options...

the strip caulking stays soft, pliable and very sticky over a long period of time, I have a box of that stuff in my garage for 3 years, it's still soft and sticky

the 3M window weld in the strip style (not the polyurethane tube) is the same stuff
