Is the compression that high to run 91? Is it 9:2:1 ?

I dont know the compression cut off for each octane, but I do know when I had my B18c w/ 11:1 compression I had to run 91 no matter what. At 9:2:1 on your D15b7 you should be fine at 87 octane.

i didnt relize the compretion was that low,i would just run 87 with it.pump gas isnt going to hurt anything so run what makes you feel good.i have higher compretion thats why i run 91

it might just be in your head that it runs better with 89 instead of 87. and it IS an honest answer. i just dont see why anyone would waste money on higher octane has when theres no benefits and it just makes your wallet thinner.

Especially with how gas prices are. If you motor is unable to successfully burn all of the fuel mixture because your compression/heat is low then its pointless, just like iVtec said.

Run 87 octane. There is absolutely no reason to spend more money on the 89 or Premium.

That said....it is NOT a waste of money to spend the few cents extra on Chevron brand gas. As far as I know, the only Top Tier rated guys are Chevron, Texaco (I think?), and I know Shell is now Top Tier.

Have you seen the Chevron commercials comparing the valves of engines that run Top Tier gas vs. the discount crap? It's only slightly exaggerated. I'd rather spend the extra 25 cents more each fill up and know I'm buying quality and knowing I'm doing everything I can to keep the inside of my engine clean than shopping around for the best "deal". It's not THAT much more to buy from the Top Tier guys.

Running a higher octance in your motor will never hurt anything. Running a lower octane than your supposed to will always cause problems. I always run 91 because my compression is high. Now on a stock motor I would only run 87, just because like stated earlier its not really worth it to spend the extra on 91. But if you want to use 91 or 89 its not gonna hurt anything.
