Air, Temp sending unit or thermostat problem? I don't know! Please help.
I searched and didn't find a problem like mine.
Well I had no problems till I replaced my intake manifold. After getting it running it ran fine for about 40+/- miles. I parked it for a few hours then drove around town for an hour with no problems. But on the way home I looked at the temp. gauge and it was bottomed out pass the C. I pulled over and no water was leaking I had pressure on the top hose and the radiator was hot. I got back in and started it back up and the temp was a the normal temp place about half. Started going and a mile later I looked down and the gauge was dropping. I pulled over again and left the car running and checked the temp sending unit to see if the plug was lose. It wasn't. I get back in and the temp is normal.
Does anyone know what the problem is. My first guess is thermostat stuck open and the air is over cooling the coolant.
2nd guess would be air in the system but it was fine for over 40miles.
Thanks for any help

Are you throwing any codes.
Drive it hard a bit and see if you can get the temperature to rise. If it does then its mechanical if it keeps droping then its not reading correctly therefor its a sensor or a wirring issue.
And make sure you double check everything hose connections wires ect.

Sounds like one on the wires got pinched and loosing signal or grounding off of something. Try letting the car runs until it reaches opperating temp. then wiggling the wire around a bit..... maybe you can trace it, or see it pinched somewhere...... only a guess though. Good luck
No codes at all. I even checked the ECU to see if it flashes.
I'll recheck the wires. I'm also going to replace the thermostat just because. But I'm wondering if its ok to drive it tonight.

I had a similar problem. The plug to the temp sensor always seemed fine, but the wire going into the back of the plug became detached internally. One day I lost the temp sensor and figured that something went. Like an idiot I hotwired my fan on 100% of the time figuring that I'd fix it when I did my swap.
When I did the swap and pulled the plug I took a look at it. A quick tug on the wire made the two come apart. A quick soldier job to a new plug on the new engine and I was set. I suggest you get a friend and trace that wire back to the harness/firewall while your friend watches the gauge. Probably the best way to check for a short.
Good luck

id definatly do exactly what mikejr said. its not always something you can see ive had wires break inside of the lines and its impossible to tell without a volt meter or actualy taking things apart.
