Default temperature gauge problem

Hi all,

i have had my 95 gsr for only 3 days and I was wondering if there was a problem with my cooling system. the needle on my temperature gauge even when it is at normal operationg temperature stays pretty close to the cold range like about a quarter of an inch from the cold range. I have a 97 gs that I've had for a year and it's needle at operating temperature is almost at the middle. I'm wondering if my gsr has a cooling problem that I should fix immidiatelly. like replacing the thermostat, drain and replace the coolant?

thanks in advance

It's the thermostat. If the car stays that cold, then the thermostat is stuck open.

It's normal. My temp. guage has never gone past the 1/4 mark, but most of the time, it stays almost all the way towards the cold side.

I wouldn't call it normal. If the cooling system is stock, then the needle should almost go to the halfway point.

There is such a thing as the engine running too cold. It needs to reach an operating temperature in order to run correctly. If the needle is barely moving up, and the cooling system is stock, the thermostat should be replaced. It's cheap and easy to do.

So it would be the thermostat, where is the switch that sends to the gauge, is it the one by the lower radiator hose by the head.

Well I changed my thermostat, and my gauge still dont work and my fan dont come on. There is 2 ect sensors on in the front on the head and one in the back on the thermostat housing. Which one controls the fan?

thermostat. it prevents your car from warming up when stuck open since the anti-freeze keeps cooling your engine wihtout warming up first. however if your gauge is reading false.. it could be the gauge, or air in the coolant lines.. tricking the gauge into thinking the car isnt overheating when it really is..
