crank and camshaft misaligned, will it hurt motor bad PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well when i put the new timing belt on my sohc zc after i bought it and before i dropped it in my 88 crx dx i guess i was to stubborn to look at the owners manual on how to align the crank and cam. SO what i did was align the cam the correct way because it is pretty self explanitary but the crank was my difficult part. I stuppidly made it so that the key that aligns the crank pulley on the crank snout was up instead of the mark on the pulley for TDC (which i now discovered) so it was probably like couple degrees maybe advanced for the 2 months i have had the motor in now explaining it's running really rich.
Now my question is will this have hurt my motor or should i not worry because it has run fine and it is responsive as hell but i am going to align it the right way tomorrow?
I KNOW THIS WAS COMPLETELY RETARDED OF ME BUT PLEASE HELP

come on guys i am just curious if this can damage my motor at all because that would suck
It could bend the valves, but if yo ran the car for that long, i don't see the timing being off enough to hurt anything, especially since you drove it that long.

Agreed
Agreed
it had good compression when i tested it a little while back
so i dont think the valves arent bent but if not anything else than i am not to worried.
But i could smell the excess gas and it charcoaled two o2 sensors

ok well i got the cam and crank aligned with the exception that the cam is about 1 tooth advanced which believe me was as close as i could get it after about 300 tries without taking the whole belt off. So i was wondering if this is a bad idea to run it like this? Like i said it was way worse before and i have put 2000 miles on it without any issues? Another thing i figured was isnt this just like having an adjustable timing gear except mine is stationary so i dont think it will have a negative affect on the motor but i do need some feedback so please if you have anything.

Just take the belt off. It can turn into a several hundred dollar mistake.

can somebody give me some hints on how to easily get the crank pulley bolt off?
Believe me i tried to get this lose for an hour with a 1/2 drive breaker bar and it wouldnt budge.

you dont need to take the crank pulley off to realign the timing belt. Loosen up the 14mm behind the rubber cover on the timing belt cover between the sprocket cam and the pulley. That will loosen up the belt enough to align. If its running rich still...check 02 sensor.
that is what i did but sitinthehall said to just take the belt off so i was wondering if any of you had a good way of getting it off. But i ended up just leaving it and when i used the timing light to check the degrees it was dead on when the distributor was about half way between fully retarded and fully advanced so i am guessing it isnt too bad and it runs strong and smooth.
oh i know
well i must of gotten the cam aligned pretty good because it is running amazingly without any problems.
One question what are some common symptoms of misaligned timing at the cam just out of curiousity?

I meant just get them aligned.

Ya, but the distributor runs off the end of the cam... So cam timing and ignition timing are related.
