Question about Legality of Swaping Engines
I am planning on getting probably a 91-93 LS.
Probably going to drop a GSR or what ever.
What are the legal issues of doing a swap?
Thanks in advance.

just run the Vin and make sure the engine's legit, buying it from a reputable place is a good way to prevent that. Otherwise i'm not aware of any other illegalities
well in california you have to take it to the state ref. then there they will inspect your car- and i mean inspect. you have to also remember that the motor you put it has to be newer than your car. also have the papers for the new engine.(ownership)
ive never heard that you had to take it to anyone for inspection. all you have to do is pass a regular smog check unless you get caught with a test pipe or something majorly illegal
Yes cramerox is right, anytime you install a motor that wasn't designed for that specific year/model it must go to the state ref. If your car passes hboth the visual and smog then you will recieve a BAR sticker. Without this sticker you risk getting your car impounded by a bitter cop or worse the carb
