All I asked for was a simple oil change...
Went in for my 1st oil change today "servie A". well everything went great it was free too.... I was looking at the service sheet. saw that they use Quaker state oil. didnt know that honda used that.... anyways.. i see they put in 5w-20, my oil cap says to use 5w-30. I called the dealership asking what reason did they change weight. after a bunch of ugh ahh ugh ahhh.... they said we will call you back with the service manager's explanation.... well the guy i talked to said it was prly a computer typo. saying thats what it prints out all the time... its not life or death... ive had a bad day to start and ive herd way to many "stealership horror stories"
Does anyone think i should go back and make them change it again... regardless what the tech said?

Tell them you will be contacting honda corporate.
Get your $ back for the oil change and go to a local place.
in the grand scheme... it really doesn't make that much of a difference, some people change oil weights for summer, area's climate etc etc.
However i understand its your brand new car and you want everything perfect.

well it was free... the 1st service i guess is always free... part of buying the car... im still waiting on the service manager... but im sure she will have a perfect bullshit story to come up with
Just tell them that your not statisfied and you want it changed again and don't take no for an answer. Your Honda deserves Honda oil!
Ok never minde everyone... they just called me back and im going tomorrow to get my oil changed again... they offered to do it again for free. (but for the record they still said it was a typo in the computers cause the car is new) Bullshit... 07s have been out for a while... comomn a big corporation cant fix that minor ****... oh well im happy now

Honda oil?? Our oil comes in a big *** truck that says "Haycock" on the side and its filled with "Chevron" oil not "Honda"
As far as our service bay goes... we use gun oil unless otherwise specified from the owner... Sorry but you should know what kinda oil your car takes...so should the techs and service writers though, so they are both to blame. It would be like going to a full service gas station and just telling the guy to "fill'er up" he would probably use regular unless told otherwise.

My first, and last, dealership oil change story. Back in 1998 I took my wife's CR-V in for its first scheduled oil change. As in your story, the dealership provided the first oil change free of charge. Once I got home I decided to make sure that the oil level was correct. Imagine my surprise when I found oil spilled all over the top of the engine around the oil cap. The oil level was about 1/2" above the full mark on the dipstick as well. To make a long story short, I took the car back and had them clean the spilled oil on top of the engine and had them redo the oil change.
I have changed the oil in all of my vehicles since that day. I always let the oil drain for ~15 minutes, which is better than the 2-3 minutes that most oil change places allow. I use clean, lint-free paper towels to wipe down the oil filter's gasket surface. This is much better than the dirty, red shop rag that I have seen used in more than a few oil change shops. Finally, I prefer to use sealed containers of oil (Mobil 1) instead of oil from a bulk tank.

hahahaha OMG over kill.. why dont you disassemble the engine while your at it to get the old oil out of the nooks and crannies.
the 1oz. of oil that drains out over the 12 minute period that your talking about is in noway what so ever detrimental to the engine. time is money 12 minutes is alot of time. if i sat around work for 12 minutes when a car could be getting finished up and out for the next i'd get my *** reamed. an oil change only pays 4 - 10ths and 6 minutes is one tenth of an hour. im sorry you had a bad experience but not all dealerships are like this.

No disrespect intended, but 12 minutes of additional drain time doesn't cost me anything. I have nothing against using dealership service, but prefer to perform some maintenance my self. I like to look around under my cars and check things out when I change the oil as well.

One of the guys at my work did an oil change on a brand spanking new car. Took out old oil, replaced oil filter. Drove vehicle to parking space. Owner drove away, engine blew up 10 minutes later on the freeway; owner is very unhappy. Guy was almost fired (engine cost ~4k to replace)

Agreed. Dealerships here in AZ change oil weight in the summer.
