Honda Dealership and Synthetic Oil Mishap
So here's what happened. First I bought a case of Mobil 1 5w-30 at Costco, thinking I'd bring it with me to Honda for my 5k maintenance to save some cash. But when I ask them, they say they only charge $25 more for full synthetic Mobil 1 anyway, so I actually wouldn't be saving anything. When I got there, then, I explicitly told them to NOT use the oil that I left on my front seat.
When I got back my service guy told me that the techs had accidentally opened the box before they realized they weren't supposed to use it.
"You should still be able to take it back," he told me. It was Costco, so I figured he was right and didn't argue it.
Fast forward a couple days when I started thinking about it: why would they OPEN it and then suddenly realize they weren't supposed to use it? I bet they USED the stuff I brought and replaced it with their own bottles when they realized their mistake. I figured I'd be able to tell easily by checking for some dirty bottles or ones that weren't put in the box straight, just to test their honesty.
And sure enough, they had little dirt flecks and whatnot across them! What liars, but whatever. But THEN I realized that these were 5w-20 bottles! Five out of the six bottles were 5w-20 and one was 5w-30. Coincidence? I think not. They used MY oil and were stupid enough to replace it with different oil. How the heck am I supposed to take this back now? Furthermore, I wonder if they're using 5w-20 in Sis? Freakin' come ON Honda, you should know your cars better than this, right?
So I called the guy back and he was pretty nice/apologetic about it. However, he told me that 5w-20 is what they were *supposed* to put in this car, and that they DO in fact have some 5w-30 to replace my bottles with when I'm ready to come by (what a huge inconvenience!). Because I couldn't remember exactly what kind of oil was SUPPOSED to go in my car I said "and if you don't mind I'd like to read up and decide whether I want you guys to change my oil back to the 5w-20." He agreed and that was that.
Let me ask you this -- am I out of line for being frustrated for:
1. them being dishonest about using my oil in the first place,
2. them using the "wrong" oil according to their own thinking,
3. them replacing my oil with the wrong stuff and not offering to change it to what they recommend without me having to ask,
4. not knowing what type of oil the Si takes in the first place, or
5. not doing any better than saying "we have some to replace the 5w-20 we gave you with when you're able to swing by"
?
TIA.

well all stealerships are bad, thats why they are stealerships
2. them using the "wrong" oil according to their own thinking,
funny, b/c it says what to use on the oil cap too.
3. them replacing my oil with the wrong stuff and not offering to change it to what they recommend without me having to ask,
If they put 5-20 in the car i would demand a fresh change, being that some dealers threaten to void warrenties when you dont use oem products
4. not knowing what type of oil the Si takes in the first place, or
see oil cap
5. not doing any better than saying "we have some to replace the 5w-20 we gave you with when you're able to swing by"
i would take them up on it, and them give em the finger on the way out, and call honda care.

yea they`re bad at following directions...i went 2 my honda dealership to get an oil change and i also brought my own oil and i specifically told them to use the oil sitting in my front seat when i pull out of the garage i look over at the passanger seat and the oil is still sitting there...so i went back and had them change it again at least they gave me a free oil change full synthetic for next time and they also threw in a free carwash
fucken stealerships, just change your own oil! I would write a letter or call people higher in the food chain and just bitch, bitch, bitch till you get some free stuff.
they wanted to charge your more for using synthetic oil.
i brought mobil 1 synthetic to my dealership and have always got quoted with out the use of their oil, cheaper for me.

When I took my car to the dealer for it's 5k oil change, I asked if they had synthetic. The tech told me yes, but they ONLY carried 5w-20. He said they would be more than happy to use their 5w-20, and that it would not hurt the motor, but the factory recommends 5w-30. If I wanted to follow the factory recommendation (which is what he suggested), I would have to supply the oil, which I did.
From a car perspective, I think your better off with the 5w-30 since that is what is recommended. Personally, I think 5w-20 is too light of an oil. If you look at your oil fill cap it clearly states 5w-30.
From a dealers perspective, I would start looking for a new one. For the only reason that they blatantly lied to you about the oil they used.
If they lied about that, I am sure they would not have any problem lieing about something else. I think my faith in that dealership would be completely shattered.

Is there a reason people are going to the dealership for an oil change or am I missing something? It takes longer to go buy the oil you're taking with you than it does to actually change it out yourself.
It was an A1 service. Not only would I not try and do each "service" myself, but I don't really want to change my own oil, either
I only had the oil because I was at Costco anyways.

I personally wouldnt go back, especially if theyd lie about something like that... an oil change isnt **** to a dealer, but losing a repeating customer is. My dealer wont hesitate to give me free service if they think i am unhappy, because when they make me happy, i go back time and time again.
This is EXACTLY why I don't bring my Si for service into at the dumbass dealership. They did this to me too, thinking that the car required 5w-20 when they could've just payed attention and saw that it says 5w-30 on the oil cap. I even told them like 5 times, to make sure and use 5w-30 because it's an si. Sure enough, they topped it off with their 5w-20 crap and even deflated my tires to 32 in the front AND rear. The car requires 35 in the front and 33 in the rear.
You should just get a good mechanic and maintain it on your own.

I found out that many mechanics at the dealer do not even replace the oil filter and just take it home; most people won't notice it.
I made a mark on mine and when pick up car still got same one; complained to the service manager and he just apologized saying the mechanic wasn't able to removed because was extremelly tight; they gave me a free oil change for next time; but of course never returned; now I do my own oil change myself.
Some other dealers do not even replace oil and just add some new one.

This would be 100% illegal unless the products were provided without charge.
