Dealer put wrong oil in my Si
Alright, i was just cleaning out my glove compartment and i noticed a paper in there from when i did my first oil change at the dealer. I noticed it said 5W-20. I could have sworn i saw 5W-30 on my oil cap..... I check my owners manual and i notice that it does in fact say the Si takes 5W-30, only the EX and lower take 5W-20. Anyway, now i'm really annoyed because i've been getting shitty gas mileage (20-21mpg) and i dont want to compromise the longevity of my engine, not even by the smallest means.
Should i take my car back to the dealer and make them replace the oil with the correct oil for Si(5w-30)??? or are they gonna try and throw a line at me saying that 5w20 is fine for the Si even though the owners manual calls for 5w-30.....

just called and they told me that the techs go by the cap on the engine. Supposedly they just bill 5w-20 but they do put the right stuff in. I dont even know if i should believe them
now i know why some of you guys bring your own oil.....

I dunno if I'd buy they just bill 5w20 and put in the correct weight. At our dealer we have 5w20 in the bulk tank outside thats put in with the oil guns. That oil is a bit cheaper than the qts. of Honda 5w30 or 10w30. So unless their parts dept. likes losing money, they put the wrong oil in. I'd make em do it over again.

On my first oil change they did the same to me. I also paid to change to new MTF.
My paperwork said they put 5w20 and ATF!!! in my SI
they game me that same b.s. line over the phone about how "that's what the computer prints out or defaults to" Long story short, asked for the 800 number and they changed the MTF and the oil. They had the empty bottles for me when I got there. New MTF and they even used Honda 5w30 oil and not their normal quaker state out of the drums.

Same thing happend to me they had put 10w 30 in mine but not at a dealership i was freakin mad. But since we can put 10w 30 in our cars i didnt wind up taking it out.
No need for you guys to get bent out of shape. What is billed out is from the service advisor not the tech doing the work most all the time, it is at the dealer I work for.
If this upsets you or makes you uneasy, don't call, complain, organize a march, or make a post, just take your business to another dealer. It's not like they put hybrid oil in, it's not going to make a bit of difference. Accords, CRVs, elements, and other k-series cars all use 5-20. You think there is that much of a difference between the two motors that it will cause engine damage? Come on use your head.

Bottom line is that it's my car with 5k miles on it. I thought that they could at least respect the fact that I wanted the correct fluids in it. They did, swapped them out for me with no hassle on my lunchbreak and thats it.
I didn't say it caused any damage or would.
It was the first oil change I've had done on a car in about 10 years or more and I think from now on, I'll just change the new car's oil in the driveway like the others.

I have checked my last 3 receipts for oil changes, and noticed that they all say 5w-20. I don't see how that makes your car have such good gas mileage. I have never had less than 29 mpg, and I definitely do not try to drive like a grandma..
I work for a dealer and I can tell you that our bulk oil is 5w20 so all of our bills say 5w20 unless the customer wants synthetic. Also alot of techs do not care if they put the right oil in the car.
im not goin to the dealer for my oil changes. I dont know what brand theyre gonna put in. My salesman told me it only needed 87 octane... It even says 91 on the fuel door!
Speaking of which, anyone have any tips on getting the filter off? taht thing is in the worst place ever...

You shouldn't be hammering on the car that first 300 miles anyway.

The manual says what octane regardless of the duty of the engine. And I did not even put my si into vtech till 500 miles.
