Transmission help, 2 gear grindage.
have a honda civic 2000 d16y8.
well when im driving and i shift to second it sounds like it strips and sometimes it doesnt go in it just shakes my hand, and other times it just grinds very very hard. i do kno my throwout bearing is shot, and i think my sync rows are going for 1st to 2nd and when i shift to 3rd it grinds a lil but my main concern is second gear, what can i do to fix this problem.
thanks
oh would it be better to buy a new tranny or get this one rebuilt?

could be that the trowout bearing is not releasing the pressure plate all the way. My car did that before, shifting was really hard. Turned out my clutch disk had broken.
Syncromesh, not sync rows

especially since its a D-series. To replace the trowout bearing, you'll need to take the tranny off. Might as well replace the clutch/pressure plate along with the rear main seal while you are there...ebay has some Exedy OEM replacement kits with all of that for 120$.

Well, put it this way. You can drive around in that time bomb and hope that you don't get stranded somewhere in a no-cellphone-signal zone, or you can buy a new tranny, put in a good clutch and replace all your seals and not have to worry anymore about that hunker.
It could be that your shift fork is bent or something has been knocked out of alignment. That would cause the grinding and cause it not to want to stay in gear.

Have you checked the fluid level in your trans?
Changing out the fluid with Honda MTF will only cost about $12. It fixed my 4th gear grind, although it wasn't as bad as you described yours.
Good luck
