hitting rev limit to soon??
im having a wierd problem and cant figure out what is wrong. im using hondata s300 and have the rev limit set at 8600rpms. starting about a month ago it only goes up to about 8300rpms and then its like it hits the rev limit.. usually lets out a loud backfire. at first i thought maybe it was the ignition breaking. dont know why it would do that all of a sudden though. i put new plugs in it all the time. they are ngk r5672a-8's currently gapped at .020. ive even tried a lower gap and that didnt help. the ignition is all oem and ngk blues. ive even tried a msd blaster ss coil.
i have a old apexi rev/speed meter in the car and once i start getting up in high rpms it starts flashing the rpm. and sometimes my proform shiftlight will start going crazy once i get high up in the rpms.
anyone have any insight? its just wierd to me how i can only take it up to 8300rpms and not the 8500 like i want.

If you have a wideband in the car, do a datalog and cal and host it somewhere and post the link.
If you already gapped the plugs down, the problem is possibly an overly rich condition (or lean).
Not sure why you have the rev/speed thingy but I'd remove it to rule that out as well.
Good luck.

i had a similar issue in my friends car. turned out to be a bug with the full throttle shift. its rev limit was set to 8500 but then when i got in the car it rev limited at 6500. once i disabled the full throttle shift feature it immediately revved to 8500
Whoops, forgot to add the boost cut thing. If it is checked it may be overboosting.
Mike is right though, they did have a bug in the FTS. I thought that was fixed though. Are you using the latest version? Still worth a try though.

Mike, you may be hitting the rev limit, but your tach is just a little low. If everything else is going off like the cut, the CEL light, and other things then maybe your tach is a little off. Since you have checked the ignition side of things this might be your issue as tunes don't just randomly change.
is everybody who is having this FTS problems using the s300? I have had experience with crome and s200 but I was actually looking to go s300 route this time around so Im glad I have a ran across this thread.

of course i have a wideband. and the tune is DEAD ON. i have not changed anything. its NOT the tune. (a/f and timing)
rev/speed thingy was only $30 and it saves the highest rev and mph. its not that lol. it just taps into tach and vss. this just recently started doing this..and i have done nothing to it.

im not using full throttle shift. it has to be something to do with s300.. maybe i should try raising the rev limit even higher. i dont know..
and im not taking it back to the tuner (suprdave) because one there isnt anything wrong with the tune and two he is 8 hours away.

i thought that too but the boost cut is set at 27psi.. and i always watch it and it doesnt go past 25psi.
like i said i didnt change or do anything, just started doing this out of the blue and now it does it all the time.

why would my my actual guage (both of them) read 300-400 rpms lower than the ecu though? so youre saying i should try raising the rev limit to like 8900rpms and see if it lets me take it out to 8500. ill try that.
and i always keep the firmware up to date.

I've seen tachs be off by 800rpm before (revving to 9.2k). You say you have 2 tachs? What does the ECU read? Try going and staying at 8,000 and see the difference between the ECU reading and your tach"s".

ill try that but if i remember correctly they were the same..
doesnt the ecu get the tach signal from the same place as my gauges?

check the status of each of the sensors when this stuff occurs.
heres where you can find them on the sensor list, so find on the graph where this occurs and it might show you which limiter is activated if it is indeed a limiter.

well i was doing pull to datalog and for some reason this was the first time in over a month it let me rev over 8300rpms. i was like wtf... until my tranny blew 4th gear. oh well its only my 4th tranny in about 1000 miles. stick another in her.
