Default another bolt question. this time a good one

im changing the springs right now. this **** is way easy. only problem is getting this ****** bolt out. driving me NUTS!!!

so, my question is....
how do i remove the center bolt on the top of the strut?? You have to hold it with an allen wrench, and take the nut off. but the nut is too far down for me to grab with any wrench. and i cant use a socket, cause i have to hold the scerew with the allen... arrrrgghhh! heres a pic....

thanks 8th civic for the pic.

Next time you can leave the strut in the car and break the bolt loose with a socket wrench.

i put a vise on the socket.

then put an allen through the top of the socket into the shaft.

then put a vise grip on the allen.

held the allen/shaft still and turned the socket/vise counter clockwise.

thanks for the responses guys....
i did a combo of all these tricks.
first a blasted it with the impact gun.... but just spun around after the first break.
so then put the socket on top, held it with a pair of vise grips and used the allen to turn it.

that got kinda old, so than i jammed a 8mm wrench next to the nut so it couldn't turn, and finsihed it off...

ultra ghetto. but worked.

hope the rear is easier! the front is cake, just those damn nuts.....!

Barefeet and wrenching a killer combo

I just loosened mine while it was still in the car, you also need an allen key to tighten it back down

so it looks like the easiest way to deal with this problem is to loosen the bolt when the strut is still on the car, then loosen with allen wrench.

get a spring compressor first before doing anything to it.

definently get a sring compresser first.

the bolt is super tight, so yes, easiest way to break it loose is to do it while the strut is still in.

choose how you want to finish getting it off after that. there is no real logic to the way i did it.
