if you use 12, and its siezed, you'll just round it off

I use the sears craftsman ones and the smaller ones are f'd up already. Lifetime warranty baby.
For the screw extracters I have a snap-on set

 

6pt FTW.. Backup plan: use air tools!

 

those turbo sockets come in handy for things like when the 14mm bolt for the timing belt tensioner strips out

Thats too funny. That is the last time I used mine about 3 weeks ago. LOL!

 

The 12pt sockets are THIN as hell for Craftsman. I cracked one yesterday. Good thing they're lifetime guranteed,

The bolt will only fit a 12pt.

A lot of bolts are 12pt head...and if the bolt is a 12pt head the wrench to take it off is also the same size as the bolt FYI

 

clutch and flywheel bolts on our hondas are 12 pt sockets as well

but yeah, as stated 6 point sockets are better on a 6 point bolt. obviously

They're easier to get onto the bolt/nut, since it'll fit every 30 degress instead of every 60. Isn't a very big deal unless you're working with a breaker bar in limited space.

 

I would consider that a bigger advantage of the type of ratchet that your using and the degree of swing...you can almost always reach down and twist the socket to fit on
