Default How many people had their a/f ratio tuned for power?

I'm talking about after your timing is disled in on a dyno, do people who have their cars dynoed tuned also tune their a/f ratio for max power? I tune customer cars to a safe 11.6 a/f. I am now tuning my own car and I hit a/f ratio of 12.2-12.3 all the way to 8000rpm on 14 psi.
I drive with the wideband and make changes to achieve a good mpg and maintain good power at 12.3 a/f on boost. Are there people running 12.0 on boost
I run a typical set up bseries, rod , pistons 9.0 comp hondata 550cc
What I am trying to say is 11.5 a/f and 12.2 a/f ratio. how much power can be picked up by leaning it out?
I know this is confusing because every set up is different. so post up some a/f ratios. Im sure people have THE AEM wide band. I got one in my race car and my tuning fjo in my daily driver.

How did you dial in ignition timing without a dyno?

I'm talking about the difference between a 11.5 a/f ratio compared to a 12.3? Yes reliability is better if it is run richer11.5 a/f but if turboed honda is tuned what makes it less reliable if it is tuned to 12.0- 12.5 a/f wide open. I am just talking honda we have a strict emmision law and the have to be spun on the dyno at 25mph and in 3rd. They never see boost when tested I was just wondering if people actually lean their motors out to get extra power.

i had my car tuned 11.9-12.4 the second half of last summer. i really dont know if you are gonna make mucch more power by going from mid 11s to mid 12's.

i think gas engines make most power araound 13:1 but im not tuning any boost motor that lean

I had it at 11.5 a/f and it was fast but it was missing something, leaned it out to 12.3 a/f and the fun came back. much faster pick up when you stomped on the gas. So, i could still be reliable at 12.4

I just tuned my b16 with VP116 and 23 total degrees of timing and was right around 13:1 a/f BUT that is the dynojet WB.. I've been told those read leaner then the actual a/f mixture (VS like a DFi Gen VII)

After I did that my friend mentioned that he thought the car would make more power if I was aiming for 11.7-12.1 but I havent had a chance to try it out yet.

......umm go to a dyno and find out. Doesn't sound like you understand how fueling works......you didn't even mention timing, they go hand in hand.

To sorta of get close to answer such a question. I guess it depends on total power output. Obviously when tuning N/A hondas your really not making much more then 200whp (I know there is higher...just stating a point here) so tuning fuel to optimal power which is high twelves to mid 13's on gasoline will yield you maybe 10whp maybe a little more. Get into the 600whp range (turbo only) then correct fueling from like a 10.5 AF to 12.0ish A/F will yield you quite a bit more....duh . Liek I said very vague.

so, you dont know either oh so great tuner. You would also need a loaded dyno to find this out because leaning out a car a free spinning dyno does not drive the same on the street. ignition timing, if you read the post was already set, I understand perfectly. Like said in the beginning this going to confuse alot of poeple if they dont know what they are talking about.
The question still remains, when people get their car tuned does the tuner tell the customer what the a/f ratio is and explqin how more power can be attained by leaning it out or safety is why cars are tuned to 11,7 a/f

Example. My friend has an ls-vtec tuned by evans tuning made 15 psi 373whp on 550cc injectors at 93% duty cycle. My friend also has a AEM wideband. He knows I tune cars and said his a/f are hitting 13 after 10 psi, He knows its bad. I know its bad and tunes just dont go bad. We look at the 550cc and something was stuck in the 3 and 4 injector, If he did not have the wideband the motor would have blown.
So thats why I ask
this is still going to confuse others

Now I'm REALLY confused. I'm trying to help you here. If you want to know max power out of gasoline is around 12.7ish....give or take. What else are you asking for???? Why people run 12.0 AFR on most turbo hondas???

Also why whould you tune fueling AFTER tuning ignition? Changing that can effectivly change your original ignition you put in ? If you don't want answers from me cause I'm not a "pro" with a shop that's fine, but get your question out there more clearly

what people tune their boosted hondas to achieve the most power? If a boosted car makes best power at a/f between 12-12.5 and run better ,why would people tune them to 11.7?

Because its safe and reliable

Sometimes tunes change at random, bad gas, weird boost spike

Its safer

I have mine in vacuum leaned out to about 16.5:1 in ALL areas, get great gas mileage, but for that 20 seconds Im gonna stomp on it and rip 100+ I love having a little peace of mind knowing Im well within the safe region and not pushing anything

Timing matters MUCH more than a few points in few when boosting.
