Default D16Y3 Vtec????

My friend has a 99 civic with a D16Y3 in it. The valve cover does not say VTEC on it, but I was driving it and I swear it has a cross over at about 6000rpms. I just wondering. I know they make SOHC Vtec, and they say Vtec on the valve cover.

if i remember right, all the 96-00 d series valve covers are the same, and none say vtec on them regardless of if they have vtec or not. so it's possible, but i've never heard of the y3.
