Default for all of you that removed your power steering

Hey guys, my power steering pump is going bad and i'm way too cheap to replcae it. i took off the belt and it is super hard to turn. im not a wuss either, im 6ft 200 lbs but sheesh is it hard to turn. if i use the kit to remove it (comes with a reservoir and a breather) will it be any easier? im thinking its because there is pressure in the lines... LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE DONE THIS

PS; please dont tell me to get a non-ps rack, my civic is right hand drive and i cannot find one! thanks

When you removed the belt, you disconnected the power steering pump from the main pulley. So you power steering is disabled. When you can fix the pump(if you want power steering) you will have to replace it. But until do it will always be hard to turn. That is the nature of no PS.

if it's to hard for you to turn try getting the car to role first before you start to turn.
i have a 95ex coup same thing as you i just cut the belt and i LOVE it without PS
my neighbor (23 years old 110 lb female) don't even have PS.
come on it's a civic not a F150 it's not that hard

Is there any long term effects of driving without removing PS the right way? Like if you didnt use a breather or anything to relieve the pressure, just removed some of the lines and the pump, would it damage anything?

ok i did search but i got conflicting answers (do you really think i wouldnt search first?). so today i added a reservoir with a breather and it is WAY easier now. there was a ton of pressure in the lines without any breather for the pressure to escape. there are so many conflicting threads on this... and to the guy who says "come on, it's easy my neighbor does it..." = it is not the same as a non power steering rack and pinion. there is no air escape for the system (its fluid assisted!). as i said, i am over 6ft and over 200lbs, im not a little guy (or a wimp, i work in construction!) but i knew it couldnt be that bad. my ef w/out ps is SO much easier. anyway the breather made all the difference in the world. thanks for the help though guys.

wait you added a reservoir???

that secound link i posted is best.

loop the lines and add a breather. dont need the reservoir, clean up the bay a bit.
i agree with you, its not easy to turn w/ the ps rack, its a bitch untill you start moving.

and yea both of them are original PS racks. if it's hard to turn that's cool i have never had that problem. like i said <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 95jeremie &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
