Right now i have no Power Steering (PS) due to no PS belt, and it takes about 2 arms and a leg to turn the damn thing! i was wondering if the reason why its soo hard is because i still have the PS assembly on there? If i take off the PS assembly will it ease up a bit..? because i drove my friends Civic HB with no PS -and the damn thing feels like it HAS power steering compared to mine. i know he car is lighter but there is a very significant difference!
The suspension geometry is very likely different. The fact that your P/S pump is stll there has absolutely no effect on making your steering heavier. Try playing with your caster settings to decrease steering effort, or simply put the belt back on.
Hatchbacks generally are not hard to drive without P/S.

Cars that come with a PS stock have a different rack then ones that do not. They are geared so that the ones with PS are easier when the compressor is running but just as you noticed a lot harder to when not. You do however have the better gearing making your car more responsive to input from the steering wheel. One that come without power steering are setup so you can turn them without the difficulty that you are feeling which is maybe why ur friends is easier.. I personally like no PS. Even with the rack capped off your, it is slowly going to die over time, so that is the real downside to it. I hate A/C and PS tho too just cuz they make the motor look too clutered and ugly but that's just my opinion. Latez
I think the main problem is that the rack and lines still have all the fluid in it. Without a functioning pump it makes itvery hard to turn. If you remove allthe additional apparatus and loop your line the steering should be real close to a non-ps rack.

qcoffee, the racks are still different and draining your PS rack is just gonna hurt it more. If there is no lubrication then say bye bye. If you don't believe me then oh well..
