del sol si d16z6 vtec not engaging
well i got this car sept last year..and i dont think i ever felt vtec in this thing..i had 3 vtec cars in the past..the tach has been broken ever since i got it..so i was jus shiftin by sound..but now that i fixed it..i went from 1st all the way up to 7rpm..no crossover..and i think its always been like that..i dunno if the previous owner screwed me over..but heres wat i know..it has a vtec solenoid knock sensor wires running sumwhere..i checked the ecu..its a p28..no check engine lights at all..the engine runs pefect..stable idle..but i just dont understand why the vtec dont engage..help me out please
SOHC VTEC is just not that noticeable. What other VTEC cars did you own? If you have an intake, then you might be able to hear it, but you prob wont feel it.

Hook a test light up between the VTEC solenoid and the ECU...pin A4 I believe? Look it up in a Helms.
If it lights up when you hit VTEC, you know the ECU is sending out the signal to engage the solenoid.
If that's good, plug that back in 'n leave it alone.
Then go to the solenoid side of things. Cut the power wire going to the solenoid and touch it to the positive battery terminal, see if the solenoid clicks/engages when you touch it, and see if it goes back when you release it.
See where you are from there.
EDIT:
There's nothing really big in the VTEC system that would constitute the owner "screwing you."
Just out of curiosity, what other VTEC motors did you own? You do realize that the D-series have the least noticeable crossover points out of any of the VTEC motors. The JDM D15B is more noticeable than the D16Z6...I believe there's a ZC in some form that's VTEC, and I don't know anything about the ZC

you have to reallllly have an ear to hear a stock d series vtec engage. i mean u can feel it but BARELY. my buddy had a 99 ex with a d16y8 and he couldnt even tell i just told him it engaged fine because i could feel it at the right rpms. you want to notice it get a b16
the motors i had were a 92 gsr integra with the b17...i had a 93 integra with a b18c1 and also a 95 eg hatchback with a b18c1..my boi has a 95 civic ex same motor d16z6 and u can hear the crossover with just a short ram stock motor..mine is the same..but i dont hear nothin at all.. and

( the fact i bought that up.is because the rear disc brakes were swapped with sum drum brakes and my ebrake cable dont even work...i know for a fact its a Si and not a S)

i dunno why everyone says you cant hear vtec on a sohc. i can hear mine, loud and clear...in fact it screams pretty loud.
things ive noticed that will cause it not to engage
faulty map sensor, tps out of calibration, (both cause idle issues tho)
low oil, low oil pressure, low gas, clogged vtec solenoid screen.

have you checked everything else that has been mentioned? Bumping this is not going to get your car fixed, IF anything is even wrong with it.
