im looking at buying a turbo'ed civic because i want something fun for the summer (i have an accord, and its slow.) I've never had a turbo'ed car before, so is there anything i should look for, and is there a better year to look at ? i don't mind a 92 but i really like the look of a 99 sedan. Is it a realistic idea to try to get a relaible one for around 3,500-4k that will run and not need anything done to it. I don't mind doing some stuff, but i just want something else to drive with some pep and excitment.

 

also do you think it'd be cheaper to just buy a turbo'ed civic or do it myself? Keep in mind i've never done it before, but i do have the tools and time. I don't really want to, but i don't want to spend more than 4k on it all.

I would never ever buy someone's project. I would prefer to buy a well-maintained stock vehicle and build it from the ground up to insure everything was done properly and to my standards.

i never really though about that. Im just anxious to drive something faster than my accord in the summer. I don't think i'd have a problem building my own. Is it really that bad of an idea to buy someone elses car? Im probably gunna beat the s word of out this car anyways..

Turboing a motor is perfectly safe if done right. If done half-assed, then your motor is not prepared for abuse and strain it would not normally face. The car could be beat to **** already.

 

i know its safe. If i were to get one, i'd make sure it wasn't half assed. And i know to look for like oil leaks, neatness under the hood, not blowing any smoke from the exhaust. But is there any way to tell if the turbo is ok or installed properally? I mean i know you can check for shaft play, and would it sound f'ed up if it was when i test drove it? i'd probably buy one off of here too.

 

If your going to buy a FI car then you should make sure it has been tuned. Reciepts, dyno sheets, etc... would be good. You do not want to buy a turbo car that hasnt been tuned as you have no idea how long it has been driven w/o a tune and what **** has gone on inside the engine. Just be careful. Buy stock and turbo it IMO.

 

i would def get one that was already tuned. I don't know anytwhere around here that does tuning and dyno.

 

well you might be to get a 92 turbo'd for around 4 grand but its not going to be perfect and im beting it would need work. as for 99 civic sedan thats 6-9k stock.

 

unless you know who built the car and the history I wouldnt buy a car somebody else turbo'd.unless the car is built right and the owner can prove that it was properly tuned I wouldnt touch it.

 

i see. I probably will only spend 4k so i'll see what i can come up with. I have seen a few on here for around that price.

i see. what if i got one that had dyno sheets and tuning reciepts and such.

 

for 3-4 grand you would be able to pick up a D series turbo civic.....not too much pep too them..but some do have *****......Id say go b series for a couple more graand.........BIG ***** IS THE WAY IT GOES.....PM RESPONDED TOO

Im pretty sure you could look around and find a 92-95 EJ and do some reasearch on this site and others to build you a budget turbo. Im finding that you can piece together your own turbo kit for real cheap and still make around 200 whp on stock internals. It will take some reasearch, but it would be worth it.

Is b or d better for a turbo? I know that its easier to turbo a f22 for the accord, yet if you boost the h22 you will get power, but its aloooot more expensive.

I don't anything crazy, im just looking for something to zoom around in, and that can move when i want it to. I mean my accords great for dd but its missing the pep i want.
