Default B18C5 motor swap referee question.

Hi,

I heard that a B18C5 (GSR) motor code stamp looks the same on all years. I have a 2000 honda civic cx and was wondering if I could put an older (cheaper) B18 motor in my car and use a ECU from a year 2000. Would this trick or satisfy the referee? Any sugestions? I don't want to pay more than 3 G's for a GSR motor.

Signed, Hopeless swapper on a budget

You'd need to swap the ecu too, definatley for vtec, just buy a complete swap, I put a B18B in my hatch and it pulls really hard, its a good dohc engine for a budget, just buy a totaled integra 94 - 99 then you can beat all the ls non- vtec integra's around

Oopps I mean B18C1 !!!! I thought I might have that backwards. (Stoner).

REsponse to Nick. I was actually wanting a GSR but the older cheaper one. I heard they look the same as the newer ones. I know I need an ECU but was wondering if I could run a year 2000 ECU (same year as mine as required by law.) to trick them into thinking I have a year 2000 motor and not the older one.

you'll need an ecu for a gsr, you could use a gsr ecu year 2000, but the older gsrs are b17's the newer are b18c1's, the b17's are pretty rare though

You need a newer motor, you could however get an older motor but then you have to get a newer head of same motor.

I'm a little confused about this whole thing I guess. Maybe it's a cali thing.

I would just grab a C1 from Hmotorsonline.com

It's $3149 for the complete changeover kit. It includes.

Motor
- Hydraulic Tranny (S80, Y80)
- ECU (P72)
- Axles with Half Shaft
- Shift Linkage
- Stock Motor Mounts *
- Alternator
- Starter
- Clutch
- Flywheel
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Fuel Rail
- Injectors
- Distributor
- Engine Harness
- Comes With All Sensors Needed
- LSD Tranny (Optional +$300)

Thats what I would do or you could get just the motor, tranny and ECU for $2749

If your really on a budget you could get a B16A complete changeover kit from an SiR I for $1499 it only has 10 less HP and 10 less lb/ft of Tq or Grab a B16A from an SiR II for $2250 get the JDM issue and have the same Hp as a USDM C1 and only 7lb/ft of Tq less.

It's your money though. It also depends on what you plan to do with it. If your going to turbo it and keep it a street car I would go with a B16 the lack of torques will help you with traction IMO ofcourse. All motor a 1.8lt would be better again only my opinion.
