I'm assuming you're in CA right??
If so, then the law says you have to have a same-year or newer engine swap. If this is a JDM engine the Ref has no way of telling what year your engine is. So he'll ask for a recipt. If you recipt says it's a 2000 GSR then it's a 2000 GSR as far as the ref's concerned. Also, if you're using a JDM engine the ref will require that your ECU is "certified" as the same as a USDM ECU for the year of the engine (2000 GSR in this example) . . . . . if you get that all squared away and it passes emmissions then you're in the clear.

Re: Swap question.........is this necessary?? (nonsense)
yea i live cali
thing is im tryin to save some money and if i eventually sell the car 2 years down the road when it comes time to smog it, i might yank out the engine and buy a EG or sumthin of that nature.....thats the basis behind me buying a motor thats older then the car.
