FAQ: Fix a broken wheel/lug stud. Easy way. MS paint picture
So yesterday i tried something new to fix a broken wheel stud. This way i wouldnt have to pull the hub. no tool rental or anything like that.
Just about anyone can do this
tools.
rachet
BFH
open lug nut
hammer
new stud
17 mm socket
19mm socket
rachet
breaker bar
punch
file or grinder
cutoff tool
jack/jackstands.
1. jack up the car and place jackstands under it. please do this, its for safety.
2. take off the wheel with your 19mm socket (or whatever size your lugs are)
3. next thing to do is take off the brake caliper. on the back are two 17mm bolts. Remove those and then place the caliper on something. DONT HANG IT BY THE BRAKE LINE!!!
4.Now you need to take off the rotor. It should have one or two screws holding it on. Mine had none. but if yours does have them. take out a phillips head and remove those.
The rotor should now just come off.
5. next thing to do is take your BFH and slighty hammer your stud out of the back of the hub.
***WARNING*** do not try and hammer it out all the way yet. your gonna expletive stuff up if you do.
you just need to hammer it out enough to cut the head off the stud.
6. cut the head of the stud off and then hammer it out the rest of the way. it will clear now
(depending on how much stud is left you may need to cut some of the threaded part off)
7. Get your new stud and grind a moon shape off of one side. just enough to clear where the knuckle/hub come together.
8. feed the stud through with your finger as far as you can. line up the moon shape you cut out with the knuckle.
9. Take your punch and BFH and hammer it as far as you can (just clearing the knuckle is fine.)
***WARNING*** It should clear with little resistance on the knuckle..if its too tight of a fit take it back out and grind off a little more.
10. slide rotor back on. Take your open ended lug nut and thread it on backwards (flat side facing rotor)
11. take your 19mm socket and tighen the lug nut until the stud comes the rest of the way through.
12. bolt up the caliper with the 17mm bolts, put wheel back on, lower car, be happy

Once it's pulled in there you should have no problem and especially once you have the wheel on and the lug nut torqued down, it should be good as new. Nice write-up though, it's good to see someone trying to contribute to the community with helpful things whether it was done before or not. I think it's better than "OMFGZ the new car rocks the big ONE1111!" haha, nice job though mang.
well guys, i attempted this on a 94 ex today and guess what. it wont work. the hub is a bit bigger and it wont clear.
so could someone answer...
which cars came with the larger hub? is it a year related thing? (92 vs 94) or model related (dx vs ex)
i would like to update this with all the correct information if i could. cause as of right now this will NOT work on every model
