You need to have all of the donor USDM car's emissions equipment or you fail.
Any thing aftermarket on your motor that doesn't have a CARB # and you will fail.

That is 100% false. In California, it is possible to REF a jdm B16. I know, i did it in my old crx.

false, u can get your jdm b16a to pass w/ no problem. all u need is a usdm p30 ecu and odd1 conversion and all that(distrubitor, and wire harness 4 wire o2), and a p30 intake manifold or carb legal one(skunk2) and legal header(dc) or del sol one and have a clean running car, other then that your set to go

I sold my CRX maybe 3 months ago, and swapped and BAR'd the motor maybe a month before that. So total, about 4 months ago.

Here is a pic from my for sale thread i had posted here on HT:

I REF'd it with an actual jdm EF9 intake boot and airbox, not with the AEM u see, and it did pass with the proper del sol header as well as the wire tuck. Thats also a JDM P30 intake manifold modified to look like a USDM P30.

I have read a lot of good things regarding hazw8st, however, if u have CA plates, I believe it's still possible to get sent to the REF for having modified emissions or a non BAR'd swap.

Personally, i will enjoy the day when a cop pops my hood. All i have to do is show him the BAR label (my current EF also has a BAR'd motor).

i cant wait to get mine bar'd seems that if u do everything right u should have no problem. (ecu, intake manifold, header, etc..)

p.s. what if u have a jdm p30 ECU? i see those around all the time =P and post the answer so everyone knows

I think the hardest part of the whole thing is locating some of the conversion items like the usdm P30.

Most REF's will check your ecu to verify that it is the proper one, although u might get lucky that he wont check....but dont count on that, lol! Technically speaking, the JDM P30 wont pass inspection. You MUST have the usdm P30 from the del sol. I borrowed one from a friend when i did my B16 crx, then i sold the car with a chipped P28. USDM P30's usually run $250+.
