no...you can BAR a jdm b16 so long as it has all the usdm smog equipment (including a usdm ecu) and the motor is at least as new as your car (ie, you can't bar a 92 b16 in a 96 civic, the motor would have to be at least from 96).
for b16, i also think you'll need an intake manifold from a usdm b16, but not completely positive on it. i'm sure a search will yield you the answer as to what exactly is needed.

that dosent make sense what he wrote the year of the motor dosent matter just the smog compoinets have to be the same obd or newer as your car so you could put a b16a any year into any year car say you had a b16a from a crx and you were tryin to put it in a 96 hatch you would have to change the ecu intakemanifold and ad the crank angle sensor

i hope thats true. everybody that ive been talking to about tryin to Bar a motor is saying u will fail bcuzz the year of the motor isnt the same or newer than the car. I noe on the website it says that the new engine has to be same year or newer than the car its going into but i dunno. im gettin ready to Bar my 96jdm gsr in my 98 civic but due to the state budget issue i cant nemore cuz there is nomore state ref for the mean time..if what ur saying is true then i wont have to worry as much anymore about mine tryng to pass

no i bard my ls in a 1995 hatch and the engine stamp is b18a1 and i just put all obd1 components on it the bar sticker says acura integra 1.8 so i guess i could put a gsr in there and be fine

if u get pulled over with a swap and no Bar sticker then ur gonna get a mod emissions ticket to go see the Ref...ticket is about 3xx-4xx..if u pass the ref and get a Bar sticker then u will still pay a fine of 3xx for polluting and pay bail of 4xx if uncorrected
now since there is no more state ref until the state budget issue is resolved there is no way to visit a ref and make a swap LEGAL..im not sure wut will happen if u get pulled over with an illegal swap and get a mod emissions ticket to go see a ref...i called the state ref. # and talked to a guy that told me since there is no more state ref that u will have to go to court and tell them about the issue wit the state and they will put ur ticket on hold until the state budget issue is resolved but it wont be dismissed...i also heard that if u get a ticket for mod emissions now that the dmv will suspend ur registration once they find out about the ticket but im not sure if thats true either, just something i read online
i just finished up going thru my ticket for mod emissions.. it was $490 for mod emissions and mod exhaust...searched on HT and everybody said to transfer the car over to a close family member and the judge will drop all charges...so i transfered the car over to my bro and told the judge i sold the car and she dropped my mod exhaust but did not drop my mod emissions so i have to pay $365 now bcuzz she didnt like that i was polluting the earth and killing everybody...during the first month after i got my ticket ive been gathering parts to make my jdm swap legal and now that i finally got everything done, there is no more state ref so i cant make my swap legal until we have a state ref again...now i cant even drive my car anymore bcuzz the car is under my bros name and i have to get it smogged but CANT since there is no more ref
