No cam gear is needed if you are using the cam gear that matches the cam. BTW, are you using the Y8 tensioner as well for the timing belt?

Im still using the stock Y8 cam gear with the stock A6 botom end. Timing stays off a bit and I burn more oil, but it works as the DD.

Can we have more info?

year make model, ecu, and a better explanation of the issue other than the car doesnt start?

no clue of what cam is in there, but i believe its stock and its also a Y8 cam gear. i'm also using the tensioner that came with the swap when i bought it and replaced the belt.

Try checking your spark plug order off the dizzy. Make sure your fuel injectors are spraying.

Are you using the Y8 ob2 dizzy or your stock one? Might want to check your wiring. Also sounds dumb but have somone give you a jump. Wouldnt belive how often that little *** car battery wont turn over the engine...

you need an adjustable cam gear to get timing perfect, requires -4.5 degrees for the Y head on any other block because of the offset of the Y cam and sprocket keyway.

this may not be the problem but figured i would let you know. also, check for spark, you never said if you did or not.

would that be retard or advance? I have the same setup. d16a6 block with d16y8 head. I used the y8 belt and I have an adj. cam gear. Right now I have it set 4degrees advanced. It runs strong down low but is lacking above 5k but that might be because I don't have vtec hooked up yet.

sorry, if you use the A6 gear it will be perfect. using the y8 cam gear will retard it 4.5 degrees.
