Mini Me Cam Timing Questions
Alright guys I’ve searched and searched to make sure that I’m doing everything right on this. So here’s the run down. I’ve got a 1995 Honda Civic that has a D15B7 bottom end and a D16Z6 head. I’ve read everywhere that you need a D16Y8 cam gear to correct the ignition timing being out 4.75 degrees. With the Y8 cam gear installed my distributor is still maxed retarded for my ignition timing. The exact same way it was whenever the Z6 cam gear was installed. The only difference is that with the Z6 cam gear installed it feels like it runs fine but with the Y8 cam gear installed it seems like it’s falling on its face in the lower RPMs. I’ve checked the ignition timing with a light and it’s showing that it’s in time. But it’s just a noticeable difference with the Y8 gear. So I’m just wondering just exactly where does the Y8 cam gear mark need to be pointing to be correct?

Re: Mini Me Cam Timing Questions
You have that incorrect.
The changing of the cam gear is only if you mate a Y8 head to a B7/B2 block.
If you mate the the Z6 head to the B7 block there is not the 1/2 tooth variances that exists on the 6th gen cams.
If you go into the FAQ sticky and goto the Minime you will find the threads that indicate these variances. It's the Y8 minime that pose the 3.75 degree variance.

I really appreciate it! I somehow had gotten super confused trying to absorb way to much info at one time and thought I needed the Y8 gear. So I swapped the gear back out to the Z6 gear and I’m all good to go!
