Honda Blocks Should the Sleeves be higher than the block??????????
Here's the quick story: I dissassembled both my B16A block and my B18C5 block within the last week and found that both Blocks have the steel sleeves higher than the rest of the deck. Is this normal? The amount is just enough so that when you run a straight edge accross the deck it catches the steel sleeve. Maybe a couple thousandths.... Please let me know I need to reassemble these blocks soon and may take them to a machine shop to have them leveled. I spoke to few of my sponsors and have had mixed replies. Thanks for this odd tech question help.
I just check my B16 and b18C blocks and they were even. Having the iron part of sleeve a bit higher than the rest of the block shouldn't be a bad thing because the lower part is where the bolts are and this allows extra load over the raised cylinder section.
My Golden Eagle sleeved blocks have sleeves that are about +0.002 above the outer deck.

um if its not too much i wouldnt worry
i mean if the head is mating to the block with no problems i dont see a problem.

get it decked ! i put 4 headgaskets in my b16 trying to figure it out . make sure when you take the head off to barely brake loose the head bolts or you will warp the head and block. 1/3 a turn on each one
Who did the sleeve install? If you were using a shim style thin head gasket, it would be big trouble. A thick sandwich style gasket is no problem with .002 up

cant go wrong w/ golden eagle... but why do you have 2 blocks? you must be rich or something
...what valvetrain are you gonna be using for the b18c?

Not rich, just enthusiastic. One block is for me and the other is for a friend.
I'll be using my own cams with proly Port Flow retainers and my own springs.
It's nice to do your "own" thing.

If the blocks have a " step deck " on them, you must use a 3-ply steel headgasket ( stock preferably! ) and copper sray. This step deck will save you alot of trouble with the gasket. DO NOT RE-DECK THE BLOCKS!!!!! I can assure you, this step deck process will help. We got the idea from a couple of Lamboghini blocks we played with. In my opinion, there is no other way to deck a block. If you need assistance or tech info, please contact me anytime at (909) 592 - 4311 or drop me an e-mail at vince@goldeneaglemfg.com
