Default VTEC only pulls to 6400!!

Well recently i did a mini me swap (d16z6 head on a d15b7 block........p28 ecu, new dizzy, new spark plugs and spark plug wires) my vtec engages at around 5000 rpm's (you can def here it kick in) but it only pulls to about 6400 rpms then it starts to really struggle........i checked my oil level and it is fine.......but i did see alittle sludge on the stick (im gonna change the oil again) do you think that could be the problem?? im yet to clean or look at the vtec solenoid.........im just curious if anyone else has had this problem and what did they do to fix it...........thanks

p28's rev limiter is something like 7400rpm could be a tad more or less. But a d16z6's red line is at 7200rpms. Not sure why your motor isn't pulling past 6400. Anyway are you throwing any CEL's?

by "not pulling" is it not revving past 6400 or it just doesn't seem to make much power past 6400... which might be the case because there's usually a difference between where it makes peak power and the rev limit.

im almost postive vtec is engaging (you can hear it with my loud *** intake)

i checked my timing and its dead on

it goes past 6400..........but after about 6500 the motor just falls flat on its ***.........i thought the peak power on a d16 is around 6800

your motor isn't a D16 it's a mini me. I highly doubt anything is wrong, it's just in your head that your SOHC should be fast, and it isn't.

i understand the SOHC VTEC isnt all that great.......but from reading some of the threads it seems like everyone who did a mini me the vtec pulled to 7200

is there a way to check if the tach is inaccurate?

Is your oil old as hell and thin as water, thus loosing pressure at that high of rpm which would cause VTEC to 'disenguage'?

Try and oil change.

what have we been trying to tell you?

There's NOTHING wrong. It's just a weak little SOHC.
