Default vtec problem

for some reason it seems like i have to drive my car for a little while before my vtec is up to par. is there any reason for this or anyway to fix this, my oil is full and always good? what are some ways to check my vtec to make sure it's in good shape?

Is the misfire occurring fairly consistently @ only 6000 rpm? Please be a little more specific with the details, as misfires are hard to diagnose. My initial guess since it seems to be occurring higher in the RPM's is that it may be a fuel related misfire so start your troubleshooting there.
