Weird vtec problems...
K so i got my car a couple months ago. It burns oil, alot, and i think its a really bad valve seal. Like start it up and itll smoke but runs fine warmed up then when i wind her up to like 7-8 theres a cloud behind me and i dont know if its a resivour of oil being burnt by the heat of the exhaust or what. But car is running perfect, when cold itll would rev past 6 no problem but would not engage vtec and when it warmed up vtec will engage. So now its gettin chilly out like 0 celeus and so i warm it up all the way, like revvin around 3 for 15-20 minutes so i let it out and it wont rev past 6! Ill rev it to about 4-5 and it starts cracking and get horrible at 6. Its a horrible sound like just crakling and almost like misfireing. But after a couple times of revving it it will go past 6 and ill work it up to 8. Then it is fine. Iv checked all the spark plug wire connections, bran new plugs and wires. Whats up?
Car seems very slow to warm up...you might need a new thermostat...anyway, if it is cold the VTEC won't cut an and the rev limiter is lowered to prevent damage. Cold engines shouldn't be revved!!
just as irish integra said, a cold car should never be beat! a cold seizure is a terrific way to **** your motor....and sitting in your car reving it out to 3k for 15 minutes is just rediculous. let it idle a minute or two and then drive it VERY easily until you see the temps climb into the safe zone. vtec will not engage unless the motor is warm. honda trys to stop people like you from destroying their motor.

the most wear on a motor is cold starts, once the oil pressure gets up then your ok....but not rev the **** out of it. oh well my car take like 2 blocks to warm up after i leave my house. when i had bad valve seals...to the point there was hardly any seal left i would smoke on start up and at idle, but never at wot. have you checked your pcv system? vtec motors suffer from high crank pressure at high rpms, causing them to smoke. BTW for vtec to work the car needs to be at the right temp.

Cold running is not good for the engine, not just the starting, the most wear is put on the engine before it reaches full working temperature. thats what I mean. I have to let my teg sit idling to warm up as well, but I would never rev it at 3k to warm it up, you just shouldnt have to do that. Thermostat.

oops i gotta correct that....yea the most wear is the initial cold start up, but when the oil pressure builds up to running pressure then your good. to drived ect ect, just not rev the **** out of it.

Ok i dont think i made myself clear. I started it, let it idle for at least 2-3 minutes drove down about 6 miles revving at 2000rpm, then hit the highway goin 100kmh at 3000rpm. Then when i got to town it will cut out and sputter. But i think it is slow to warm up so ill go with that. I know how engines work and have seen first hand what happens when people run cold engines hard. They are so weak its not even funny.
