will a d16 tranny from a 92-95 fit on a 96-00 civic d16y8? which one would be better the 92-95 or 96-00 the 92-95 is 100$$ cheaper
yes any tranny from 92-00 will fit, as long as the motor is a d-series (d16, d15)
heres the main differences:
92-95
-P20/A000 is for DX/CX/VX
-P20/B000 is for EX/Si
Nonturbo, go for B000 for shorter gears
Turbo, go for A000 for longer gears and better traction.
-ALUMINUM SHIFT FORKS
96-00
-D16y8 (EX) has shortest gears
-No SI tranny because SI 99-00 is a b-series
-D16y7(DX,CX,LX), D16y5(HX) have longer gears
-STEEL SHIFT FORKS
If it was me, I would go with a d16y8 tranny, shortest gears and steel shift forks. unless you turbo.

i agree with ^. i have the d16z6 tranny on my y8 and have had nothing but problems with 3-4 shift fork breaking.

I have a question on the older 92-95 tranny's, the tranny codes where just a sticker. So how can you tell other wise what the tranny is if the sticker doesn't exist. Second question is that the 96+ newer, I heard have metal vin tags rivited to the tranny. Is this true?
d16z6 and d16y8's have the same gears.
y8 2nd is 0.47% shorter than z6 second.
del sol si and hatchback si d16z6 models use a 0.750 5th instead of 0.702 5th
alum forks break
steel forks bend
I prefer aluminum z6 forks, Mista Bone prefers z6 forks. There's a reason behind this.
all sensors are the same.
