Cliffnotes : Dealershiper thinking of wholesaling car, but wants to sell it to me . I test drove it and the clutch went out, so dealership may or may not wholesale it the way it is. Dealership claims wholesaler offering $11500, but Im calling BS.
Yesterday I went to my local dealership and test drove a trade in that they just got. It is an 02 type-s with 59xxx miles. It has a greddy kit, running 8 lbs on stock internals, nasty *** halo headlights, euro tails, and an oogly body kit. Also, the door handles have been shaved but it was shitty work so they are kinda showing back through. There are a few spots where the car has been egged too.
I went to drive the car and first thing i noticed was that the clutch felt funny, so I go to take off and sure enough the clutch is slipping really bad. I can take off in 4th gear and it would shoot up to redline. After talking to the salesman, he told me that they might just wholesale the car, but he would let me make an offer. So i told him I would pay, as is, around 10-10,500 for the car, and he said that sounds reasonable.
So today after work, I call them and told them that I would like to test drive the car for a day and check out everything. I.E. compression test, estimates on body work, blah blah. When I go to pick it up, a different salesman tells me that he knows the clutch is bad and everything, but he has a wholesaler that offered $11,500 for the car, which i think is a bullshit lie. But he tells me bottom dollar, as is, he would sell it for $11500 to me. So im like, whatever, I cant make a decision without lookin at the car, so I get in the car and leave. Im going down the interstate and i cant even hold steady on the gas without it wanting to redline, so after a few trips to redline, the clutch completely gave out.
I call them up, and he asks me what I wanted to do and I told him im not buying it messed up for $11500 so he offered to fix it for free. Then I added that if he just put a stock clutch in there, it would jus burn up after a few thousand miles, so he told me to pick out a clutch and they would install it. So I told him that i didnt want to pick out a clutch for the car because I dont know if i wanted to buy it because I havent checked it out yet, but he insisted I pick it out anyways.
So right now, I dont even really know if I want the car. I was thinking about offering them around 9500-10000 as is, with the clutch burnt out and fix it myself. He said he might wholesale it with the burnt clutch, which for $11500, ill cut my losses. Ill end up having to repaint the doors, replace everythign with oem ****, etc etc. So ill have to end up putting money into it, so unless its a killler deal, I prolly wont pick it up. I guess what Im trying to get at is, I want to catch the salesmen in the lie about the $11500 offer, and see if he can give me a killer deal on it. What do you guys think would be a fair offer? Any recomendations on clutches?

best advise for this car.

dont buy it. if the clutch went out like that, the previous owner beat on his car. a boosted engine on stock internals that was beat on=you buy a new engine soon or you spend a lot of money repairing it. go find another rsx.

well if you do buy it i got some oem bumpers and side skirts in blue that i would sell you for a good price. well i think i would buy that car for like 9 grand but i would think about turning the car back to stock and selling the turbo kit or having it all checked out and keeping the turbo kit
throwing a turbo on a high compression motor and beating the **** out of the car=makes it unreliable. walk away from the car imo.
I wouldn't touch that car with a 10-ft pole, unless the price was insanely cheap.
You gotta figure it will need a new motor here soon, not to mention all of the oem parts you're going to need to buy.
You know they only paid like $8-9K on trade-in, unless the dealership made a major error.

that would be a wise decision
a car at 11:1 compression should have numbers a lot higher..my 9:1 lude hit 185-190 when i did my compression test.

went and did a compression test tonight.. 180-150-???-180. I couldnt test the 3rd cyl because i had a short 10mm and it wouldnt go over the stud.
the 180 reading, for some reason, would start dropping in psi whenever we stopped cranking.. so i guess the rings are shot? o well, expletive this car lol. thanks for the help guys

$11k for the car with a new clutch that you pick out...Get a decent clutch flywheel combination and change the brake pads, flush the fluids, have the suspension checked out and align it all up at the same time...
If there are any problems, have the dealership replace the parts under warranty...
If its an Acura dealership, they may offer factory warranty even with 60kmiles
Its not hard to swap out bumpers and get it painted for under $1k...
Don't be afraid to sweat a little to go fast...

Hey man well sounds like a bad deal offer him around 10 or 9 grand just buy a clutch yourself but buy a Stage 2 Clutch get Exedy with the flywheel but don't run it the first 1,300 because the clutch has to get used to it you know? but hey if you do that then yeah offer them 9,000 because your gonna do all the work and put money on that car just add the clutch and flywheel yourself more torc better launche
trust me go with Stage 2 clutch if you get the car

Listen Tuan, I would not buy an "as is" car, EVER. Yeah, you may get a lower price, but you really really never know what problems you'll encounter in a few months or even years.
May I ask why you sold your ITR??

I sold it because It got wrecked and wasnt fixed properly, and I am real **** with my cars, so It finally got to me and I sold it. Then I felt I needed somethign cheaper/slower to keep me out of trouble, but that only made me hate my gsr that I own now.
