How to test for a worn clutch?
Is there any real way to test if a clutch is slipping? How would I know/check if my clutch is slipping or worn down?

if its my car when you stomp it in any gear and it slips and slips and slips and then grabs....... then its worn but if your going for that all sleeper action you can make people think you have an automatic

when a clutch is slipping, the engine will rev, but the car will barely move- like holding the clutch in 1/2 way. Another way to test- pull the e brake up all the way, put the car in 5th, and keep the revs up as you were starting up a hill- if you can let the clutch all the way out and the car doesn't die and you just sit there with revs going, then it's going bad, but you can tell just by stompingon the gas, a little easier on everything too!

Re: How to test for a worn clutch? (Emerica)
ok, i am going to put mine out here since you guys can help. i got my exhaust checked for leaks last week so i am sure its not it now. my car feels normal at 1 and 2 thousand rpm but beyond 3 it feels slow the tach doesnt jump around or anything of that nature its just slow. I am not sure if its the clutch or the transmission, i would like to get as many opinions as possible before i pay some1 to look at it. A clutch install and a tranny install are 2 different ball parks

Emerica, can u be a little more clear with your instructions. Do I actually have to be on a hill or is this to simulate going up a hill?

NO- I was implying that you should slowly let out the clutch, rather than pop it out, this will let the clutch slowly grab, so you can keep the revs up. But to do this, you need to be standing still, with e brake up, starting in 5th gear. I tested out on my 88 Accord last year, and I could keep my revs in 5th gear at about 3000 while just sitting there.
BUT- if you wanna be a little more gentle on your clutch, just punch it while your'e moving( better if uphill), and if the engine revs up and you don't feel yourself moving, then it's slipping. OR- when you shift hard, from say second to third, and when you let out the clutch in 3rd, the revs will rise, as though you are stepping on the clutch slightly, but hopefully your foot is off( I mean hopfeully so that you can diagnose it) Good Luck!

i usually just sidestep the clutch, when shifting gears and if the engine revs then thats how i know its slipping. I once told my friend his clutch was slipping, and he never got it fixed and his clutch was totally gone. Car wouldnt move at all or stall in any gear at all.
