Short shift install
taking it off is a hell of a lot easier. plus if u have tight bolts or rusted bolts like i did sitting under that car would be a pain in the *** so i say just take it completely out and when ur done just rebolt it back.
If you can get under the car easy enough you can leave it connected to the tranny. It will just be a pain but I have doen it both ways.
Unbolting the stabilizer from the shift linkage and tranny will make the work much easier. It's only two bolts to remove it from the SL and tranny.

thats what i did. took me 20 minutes tops to install the short shifter, cake. its much easier than keeping it on the car.
