Default Oil Question.

Ok so I just bought a crx with a b16 swap in it. I noticed that it had a small oil leak after I bought it. It's not bad and its leaking off the oil pan. Well when I cheked the dip stick it was really frickin low. So I went to the parts store and bought a quart of 10-30 sythetic blend. The thing is I have no idea what kind of oil was in there before. Some of my friends told me it could be really bad to mix that with what I think is regular oil in it. I haven't driven it much after this. Did I mess up by putting synthetic in this motor? If so if I do an oil change will everything be ok after? Thanks

Don't freak out, it won't cause any problems. What will be a problem is being low on oil, this is a big problem. so FIX THE LEAK, and do your oil change.

Alrght thanks. As for the leak I'm thinking he cross threaded the bolt on the oil pan... Is there any other fix other than a new oil pan?

you can put an oversized plug in it if you dont already have one.

good idea. Also I was thinking of just changing the oil on my own, but I'm not sure how hard it is to get to the oil filter. Anyone?

it doesnt make a difference...what do you think a synthetic blend is?
check all the 10mm bolts on the pan first...its possible the leak is from there

yes they make oversize drain plugs, or if its really stripped a piggy back plug. it will have threads on the outside that will cut new threads in the pan and it has a hole in the center where a smaller drain plug goes this way you only remove the center plug when changing the oil as not to mess up the pans threads anymore.

alright thanks guys! For a while I was really worried that I would be destroying my motor and getting a new oil pan.
